Musical, precise, and versatile control instruments and instrumentation. DIY and bespoke hardware and sotware to bridge the subtle chasm between human and machine.

The Big Wheel

After years of using the scroll wheel of a mouse to adjust audio effect plugin parameters (and, of course, to scroll through a thousand screens) my right hand middle and index fingers had just about had enough of it. Hence, The Big Wheel – a large, ambidextrous scroll wheel with adjustable speed/sensitivity.

The device consists of a high-quality quadrature rotary encoder (the scroll wheel), a linear potentiometer (to adjust sensitivity), and an Arduino microcontroller (to read the rotation/position of those controls and translate it into USB mouse protocol.)

Custom-built units are available, starting at $250.

Ultraribbon Slidestick Duo

Consisting of two 75cm (~29inches) linear position sensors and an Arduino microcontroller (to read the position of pressure on the sensors and translate it to MIDI information), this prototype will be further developed for precise, versatile control of synthesizer pitch and modulation parameters.
